Room, Rent, Ride: Stay in COS, Play in Colorado

At Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort, we love crafting unique and memorable experiences for our guests, and our Room, Rent, and Ride Partnership with Routes Outfitters & Rocky Mountain Ride is no exception. This special partnership makes it easier than ever to enjoy a stress-free, adventurous day trip to Breckenridge, Monarch, and more,—whether you’re hitting the slopes, exploring the town, or just soaking up the mountain magic.

Recently, we had the chance to tag along on one of the shuttles, and it was an unforgettable day from start to finish.

Prep for Your Adventure

Start your trip by booking your stay at Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort using our special discount code STAYPLAY for extra savings when you book with one or two of our partners!

Once your stay is set, reserve your shuttle ride with Rocky Mountain Ride through our Partner Page or confirmation email—it’s quick and easy!

Need equipment before hitting the slopes? Routes Outfitters, located just a mile east of the Lodge, offers high-quality rentals at prices that are more affordable than on the mountain. And enjoy a 10% discount on gear rentals through their reservation portal with code STAYPLAY. Plus, Rocky Mountain Ride can pick up your gear for you, so you can relax and focus on the adventure ahead!

The Day Begins

The adventure started bright and early at 7 a.m. at Rocky Mountain Ride’s welcoming office, where we were greeted with fresh coffee, hot chocolate, and treats to kick off the day. The team made everything easy, loading gear and getting everyone settled into the shuttle van. When you book a ski shuttle with Rocky Mountain Ride, they can pick you up from the Buffalo Lodge for an easy start to your day!

As we hit the road, our driver—a true local expert—kept us entertained with fun facts, stories about the area, and even pointed out wildlife we might have missed on our own. We spotted pronghorns, mule deer, and even buffalo grazing on private ranches along Highway 24, all set against the stunning backdrop of the Rockies.

Arriving in Breckenridge

Once we reached Breckenridge, skiers and snowboarders were dropped off right at the resort for a full day on the slopes. For those looking for a different kind of adventure (like me), the driver made a quick stop to visit Isak Heartstone, a whimsical troll sculpture by artist Thomas Dambo tucked into the nearby forest. It’s a magical spot that’s perfect for photos and a short walk from the parking lot.

Next, I was dropped off in downtown Breckenridge and hopped on the Breckenridge Gondola, which is completely free to ride and offers sweeping views of the mountains and town below. At the top of the gondola at Peak 8, I found plenty to enjoy: cozy coffee shops, restaurants, and buzzing energy from skiers and snowboarders launching into their runs. It’s the perfect place to take in the beauty of Breckenridge even if you’re not hitting the slopes.

Exploring Downtown Breckenridge

After soaking up the mountain scenery, I headed downtown for some leisurely exploring. My first stop? The Crown, a charming café where I tried a latte made with local spruce syrup—surprisingly delicious and not at all like drinking a Christmas tree! Bonus points: Bring your own cup and get a discount!

Fueled and refreshed, I wandered through the unique local shops, picking up thoughtful gifts for friends and family. Lunch was at Bird & Cow, a laid-back spot with great food that hit the spot before my next stop—the library.

Breckenridge’s library is a hidden gem. It’s quiet, free, and the perfect place to relax and recharge. I spent some time catching up on emails, crocheting, and enjoying the calm mountain atmosphere before heading back to the shuttle pick-up location.

Relaxing Ride Home

The ride home was peaceful and relaxing, with most passengers drifting off to sleep after their day of skiing and exploring. It was a great reminder of why taking a shuttle is such a fantastic option—no stress, no driving, just time to unwind and reflect on the day’s adventures. By 5:30 p.m., we were back, just in time for dinner and live music at the Lodge.
