Gold-Level Recognition: Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort's Bike-Friendly Commitment

Updated: Sep 20

We’re excited to announce that Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort has been awarded Gold Level Bicycle Friendly Business recognition by the League of American Bicyclists! This prestigious honor reflects our commitment to creating a bike-friendly environment for both our guests and employees. By joining over 1,300 businesses, government agencies, and companies nationwide, we’re proud to help transform workplaces to be more welcoming to cyclists.

Our resort is now part of the 1,358 Bicycle Friendly Businesses across the country, and this award highlights our dedication to promoting a healthier, happier, and more sustainable future through cycling. We are especially proud as the Gold level designation is one of the highest honors and shows a high level of commitment by our employees as well. As of Spring 2024 there were only 13 businesses in Colorado with this level of distinction.

On top of earning this recognition, we’re excited to share the cycling spirit within our own team! Resort Manager Sara and Digital Marketing Manager Shelby have become avid e-bike riders and commuters, thanks to an unforgettable ride with our owner, Torie. Sara obtained her e-bike through the Colorado Energy Office rebate program, while Shelby rides an e-bike provided by the Lodge. Both have embraced the cycling lifestyle that Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort champions.

Our Housekeeping Supervisor, Joel, is a proud bike owner and commuter thanks to Bike Clinic Too, a local nonprofit that provides refurbished bicycles to community members in need. This organization accepts donations of bicycles, parts, and gear to help expand access to cycling throughout the Pikes Peak region. Additionally, our team member Mary uses her e-bike to commute 40 minutes to work each day, embracing the eco-friendly lifestyle that Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort promotes. It’s amazing to see how cycling is becoming a central part of our team's daily lives, whether for work or leisure!

Each June, we are a proud participant in the Colorado Springs Bike to Work Day, offering free coffee, waffles, and water to cyclists commuting through the area. It’s one of our favorite ways to celebrate the local biking community and encourage people to choose cycling as a fun and sustainable option for their work commute.

This summer, we took another step in supporting our guests by partnering with InclinE-Bikes to provide on-site e-bike rentals. This collaboration has enhanced the cycling experience for visitors, allowing them to explore the stunning Pikes Peak region with ease. Whether using our fleet of bikes for free use or renting an e-bike from InclinE-Bikes, our guests have more options than ever!

In the wake of the pandemic, we’ve seen a resurgence in biking, and we’re thrilled to support this movement by offering a safe and inviting space for everyone who rides. As Bill Nesper, executive director of the League of American Bicyclists, shared, "Every new and renewing Bicycle Friendly Business is making a statement: they actively invest in the health, happiness, and sustainability of their communities. Building a Bicycle Friendly America takes all of us, and we’re proud to recognize organizations like Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort who are committed to making that vision a reality.”
