Our Vision
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
Torie Giffin, the Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort’s visionary and intrepid leader, has always led with her heart and passion for others. Hospitality is at her core. Combined with a lifelong love of cycling and background putting on local bike rides and events, she dreamed of creating a resort that would cater to bicyclists and outdoor adventure.
Our Story
The vision started in 2015. There have been hundreds of conversations with friends and community and cycling advocates over more than a few cups of coffee and Colorado’s famous brews. There are some wonderful hotels in Colorado Springs but none that caters specifically to the outdoor adventurer and especially the bicyclist.
As Colorado Springs’ focused efforts on becoming one of the top bicycle-friendly destination cities in the U.S. and Colorado’s ranking grew as a top 10 state for cycling, it seemed the perfect storm and timing for proving the concept.
In 2016 Torie took ownership of the iconic and historic Buffalo Lodge property, built in 1919 and once touted as "Colorado's Most Modern Cottage City," to transform it into the Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort. The lodge now boasts bicycle-themed and friendly rooms and a host of activities and amenities geared to cyclists. The property renovations have been extensive and while there is much work still to be done, the concept worked and the Lodge is now the go to place for cyclists visiting, riding and racing in the Springs and hosts and sponsors numerous rides and races throughout the year.
Awards
The Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort has been recognized as one of the Top Three Hotels in 2023, by our community in the Colorado Springs Gazette's "Best of the Springs" and has been awarded Bronze for five years in a row for Best Hotel in the Springs by the Colorado Springs Independent readers. This is no small feat considering one of the world's most recognizable hotel resorts resides in our backyard at The Broadmoor. We also recently were awarded as a Gold Bicycle-Friendly Business by the League of American Bicyclists.
Torie was selected as the 2022 Small Business Person of the Year for Southern Colorado and as a 2019 Woman of Influence in Colorado Springs. She was a 2023 nominee for the Don Brown Entrepreneur Award, and was awarded 2024 winner of the Don Brown Entrepreneur Award by the Southern Colorado Women's Chamber of Commerce.
